Wigmore Hall has launched its 2012-13 Early Music and Baroque Series, demonstrating ‘unprecedented investment’ in the area. On the agenda are performances by Jordi Savall and Andrew Lawrence-King, Iestyn Davies, Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques, Paul O’Dette, The Sixteen and Harry Christophers, Le Concert Spirituel and Hervé Niquet, Le Poème Harmonique, The English Concert, Stile Antico and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.

‘Wigmore Hall’s Early Music and Baroque Series contains almost 50 concerts in 2012/13, offering a season-long survey of the best in early music performance,’ said Wigmore Hall director, John Gilhooly. ‘We’ve redoubled our investment in the Hall’s Early Music and Baroque Series, just as we have with our commitment to contemporary music. Wigmore Hall audiences will experience an extraordinary range of repertoire performed by world-class specialists in historically informed performance, artists with persuasive visions of great music from the past.’

This season’s series places particular emphasis on French Baroque music, and works from the English Renaissance, with appearances from Le Concert Spirituel and Hervé Niquet, Le Poème Harmonique and Christophe Rousset. There is also the continuation of the 'William Byrd: Sacred Music Series', begun in 2011-12, with performances from Stile Antico. The season plays host, too, to Jordi Savall, who together with harpist Andrew Lawrence-King pays homage to the legacy of Celtic music; the Akademie für Alte Musik in the music of Corelli; and The English Concert in works by Bach, Buxtehude and Biber.
